Spotlight On Our People: Carli

Goldray is proud of all of its team members, and we are excited to place the spotlight on another one of our talented crew members: Carli Castle.

Carli began her love affair with glass long before she started working at Goldray. In 2008 she began her formal education in the arts at Alberta College of Art and Design where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Glass. Carli turns glass into canvas and creates beautiful art pieces with a combination of kiln forming, glass blowing and engraving. In addition to her career at ACAD, Carli has also studied at the Corning Museum of Glass and the Pilchuck Glass school, where she was the top of her class.

Carli was born and raised in Alberta, which is evident in many of her past times. Her art pieces are largely inspired by the natural environment that surrounds her, primarily focusing on predatory animals found in the prairies. Carli is also part of a prairie folk string band with whom she sings and plays the harmonica. When she is not blowing glass, creating music or meeting with her scooter club, Carli is also very active in the Arts Advocacy community. She works with groups like Visual Arts Alberta and CARFAC (Canadian Artists Representation) educating artists on business practice and artist rights.

Goldray was very fortunate in June of 2014 when Carli came to work with us in our Research and Development laboratory. Carli spends her days testing constraints of materials to see if they are applicable for production applications. She is able to bring her love of glass together with science as she does her best to make our products fail, to find their weaknesses and then change our processes and products accordingly. Carli then trains all of our lab staff on the processes she discovers, as well as helping them with day-to-day challenges. If a designer or architect comes to Goldray asking for a product that exceeds our current limitations, it is Carli’s job to find a way to make this work.

Carli is talented, knowledgeable and such a pleasure to be around. Goldray is lucky to call her a part of our team!
